It won't work from your vehicle gasoline tank to a gas can. The tubing diameter is too big to get down into your vehicle's gas tank. You will need the cheap $2.00 plastic siphon with a squeeze bulb to do that.

I had a bunch of comments on using the hose in reverse. From the tank to the can.
Most every car and truck made in the last 20 years has an X somewhere in the fill pipe to prevent using this type of hose to take gas out of a tank.
For me it just an easy way to add gas when a pump is not an option.

I drive up to my local gas station pull up fill up and drive away. works great!

@Maroonlink5 One day maybe, you might just drive so far out there where you get low on gas and the local gas station does not exsist. Nah thats just crazy talk, rednecks are in them there woods.
