  • hi Davie I was looking in one of my fishng books and found a fly tying kit and I was wondering if it is hard to get the hang of but after I watched a couple of your videos I didnt find it that hard because you explain it so well and after a looked at a couple other videos I found that you were the best at exlpaining and tying flys. -Shane

  • Hi Shane(shaneberkness22),

Thankyou very much, I'm glad my videos have helped you to start tying your own flies, if you need advice then just get back to me...

    All the best Davie

  • Davie yer a legend ;)) ....

thanks for a great tip .. varnish the thread, excelent :)

BTW - iv noticed you tie in your feathers at the point, where i tie them in at the root end, is there a reason for this ?? I have only been at it for a few years but am going to try the tie from the point method and see how it goes ;)

    Jon :))

  • Hi Jon (Jcscoob),

I tye the hackle in by the tip mostly due to the fact that the stems are too thick and cause a lot of bulk but if I find a good cape that has a fine stem then I would be happy to tye it in at the root..Another reason I may tye in by the tip is that the best colour and marks of the hackle are there..Thankyou for the kind words..

    All the best Davie

  • Hi Davie,

Do you think you could use striped peacock eye for the body and add lead to compensate for the weight?

    Tightlines,

    ~David

  • Hi WEESTRAWZ,

You could easily use stripped peacock herl for the body, just form a taper with the thread as you don't need much more weight especially when using a tungsten bead..

    All the best Davie
