Great Im going there tomorrow have you ever dived down to the wreck in west bay I did a few weeks ago its about 20-30 feet down I couldn't get very close, but yeah check my vid out, The ship is in west bay, if you go to the park across from family video swim out about 75 yards or so from shore its between to buoys for ships, one has a green/ black ring and the other is number 6, Enjoy

Im an underwater archaeologist here in Traverse City. Both wrecks that washed ashore last Nov in the park have been surveyed now. Theyre on a nice hike along the beach going west from the CG Station or east from the end of the dune climb on Sleeping Bear Point. See them now before Lake Michigan "reclaims" them!

Yes that is the Rising Sun. A nice easy wreck to dive on.

Is that the Rising Sun ship? I want to go find it when I'm up there in a month. Any tips or GPS location on where it is exactly?

thats crazy!!
Its probably the most interesting wreck to look at in the area if your snorkeling. There are also a few others in town about the same depth, or within snorkeling range. There was another wreck on the Sleeping Bear National Lake-Shore that was much much bigger then this, but I was told that it washed a shore not too long ago. Scuba North has a Northern Michigan Wreck Brochure with all the spots too hit.
