The japanese translation of the Elite Four is "The Four Heavenly Kings".
Sounds a lot more bad ass to me.

@LunarLilyful I noticed that when I was a kid. Stood out to me enough that when I reached the Elite Four in Gen II, it was noteworthy that all four of the Elite Four had the gym leader theme that time.

I think the idea in this game was to fool you into thinking that the Elite Four was it. Regular trainers for the first three, and then automatically waltz down this epic hallway and boom, the big boss theme for the last member. After this game, the surprise was gone.
