  • I play Chet Atkins' 1960 arrangement of this when I'm out busking and it's the one song that gets more attention than any other. 2 weeks ago, a man walked by, heard me playing this, came back and said he couldn't believe I had played it as he'd just written a piece about his father introducing the young Austrian actor Erich Pohlmann to Carol Reed, who gave him the part of the barman in the film. Erich Pohlmann went on to be the voice of Ernst Blofeld in the Bond film From Russia With Love.

  • Miss The Band

  • A well constructed song, such as this, can be performed in many different musical styles. I find most new versions slow it down, when the original was actually played up-tempo, which added a counterpoint to the heavy drama in the movie. This approach is not what you would normally think of for a sound track, which is one reason the movie is a classic.

  • Anton Karas would (rock and) roll over in his grave. Great, different version.

    I enjoyed it.

  • Thanks - I'm going to play this at a local nursing home and I needed to get the feel of the song .

  • Thanks for posting...it is a great rendition of a great song...and GREAT MOVIE!!!!

  • Thanks for sharing this version, it remembers me on this great movie that I have loved so much in the 1970'th.

  • thank you. I was wondering where it was from.

  • I'm now checking out the various versions of this song on YouTube, and stuff like this continues to surprise me. I started with the Herb Alpert version (which I remembered, from the '60s) and am now on this one, previously unknown to me - after hearing the Beatles doing it too.

  • great tune
