'We're funding both sides of the war' - United States is funding the Taliban

Stories keep coming out of Afghanistan that the private mercenaries from the United States are giving protection money to the Afghan Taliban. The installed puppet Afghan leaders, who are on the CIA payroll, have connections to the drug lords. Why are America's finest being sent to fight and die while both sides of the war are being funded by the United States?
