This is the scene from Slick Hare where a cartoonish Carmen Miranda sings a song in Portuguese.

Thanx to Doni Sacramento for translating the song for me! You are awesome!!

(Original / Portuguese):
Agora estamos a fritar tanta tarraxa, embolada, batucada e a vida derreteu!

(English)
Far away from Copacabana beaches, here in famous Uncle Sam's land, no one knew what a bahiana was, with her glittering trinkets and baubles. On a beautiful day, a Brazilian lady showed up singing samba in her own African way. The moment the audience listened to her sing "Mamãe Eu Quero" (Mom, That's What I Want), they all fell in love for her, and I tell you why. Everyone would whistle at her. Then she said "Alô, Alô!" (Hello, hello!). Now we all are "frying" lots of "tarraxa", "embolada", "batucada" and life has melted away!

(Notes: "Mamãe Eu Quero" and "Alô, Alô!" are names of hits Carmen Miranda used to sing in America. "Tarraxa, embolada, batucada" are typical Brazilian hot samba rhythms that Carmen Miranda and Bando da Lua (her band) brought along with them to the U.S.)

I take the opportunity to invite you to visit Carmen Miranda's website which I've entirely created in tribute to her, at www.carmen.miranda.nom.br

Dear, if I may say, there are some inaccuracies in the lyric you posted. In place of "reluzindo seus pinguês", which really says the song is "reluzindo seus QUINDINS". And instead of "Agora estamos a fritar tanta tarraxa, embolada, batucada e a vida derreteu!" the correct is "Agora todos dançam samba, dançam marcha, embolada, batucada e até cateretê".

Anyway, congratulations for the posting, and long live Carmen Miranda!

there is something else to make pronunciation off...

there is a difference between Portuguese of portugal and portuguese

of Brazil....they pronounce the words different... like the difference

between American, Australian and the English spoken in UK....

    same lingo but......

I showed this to a Brazilian friend. It is Portuguese but it's being sung by a non Portuguese speaker so the pronunciation is way off.

This was when Humphrey Bogart try eat Bugs Bunny. I love the old Looney Tunes cartoons. This have a lot of ironic references about politician, artist and the american society

I've wondered for years whether this was actual Portuguese (I knew it was not Spanish because I speak that after a fashion) or just the kind of approximation that Benny Hill was so famous for using, usually with faux German. Knowing that it is really Portuguese is great, but why isn't it Carmen's real voice and why did they feel the need to make her dark complected when in fact she was as Caucasian looking as they come?
