The thing I don't get, is Spock goes back in time again and again to save earth but two spocks just sit around and do nothing to save their mom and home planet even though it wasn't supposed to be blown up... I agree it was lame. Also DS9 is the best of all the series, you should watch it!

It seems like Limmy has misunderstood the film...

Limmy should have played Scotty.

a) None of it ever really happened.
b) The old episodes still exist. You can still watch them.
c) If the old time-line didn't still exist, where does Old Spock come from?

My opinion: Trekkies ruined Star Trek forever, and that's why they had to reboot the bloody thing. Otherwise Star Trek would have continued its slow descent into obscurity. I think the movie breathed much needed live into the franchise.

I refer to this movie as "Star Trek: In Name Only", and yes, It sucked Ferengi balls!

@Scifimaster92 Everyone's got there own opinions.

@pupbenny Actually, I personally classify the new film as a separate work of fiction, completely unrelated to the rest of the series. This means, for example, that in my fanfiction, the planet Romulus is still intact as of the year 2448.

@Scifimaster92 I guess so. But as you said it shouldn't be happening and Star Trek Online exists so.... yeah. I'm just going to look at it my way as it's a more possitive way of looking at it.
I don't consider it canon either. The time travel plot is pointless and contrived (not to mention absurdly confusing), the villain sucked (they ruined the Romulans) and so much material is copied straight from earlier films. Nero and his starship are the same as Shinzon and the Scimitar in Nemesis. Plus his motivation makes no sense. It's a really badly written and conceived movie.

Alternate timeline, sure. Original Star Trek aside, what I can't understand is why everyone loved 'Star Trek', when in reality, just by itself as a self contained movie, it made no sense. Red matter? They flew into a black hole? What kind of BS is that? It was Star Trek: The Action Movie. It was a pointless romp in a mutilated ST universe for a backdrop, half of which seemed to much like Star Wars anyways. And it completely avoid all the stuff that real Star Trek was about.
Great accent. :)
