I've seen both movies, and although the 1974 version is part of what my Dad and I call The Trilogy ("Gone in 60 Seconds", "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry", and "Vanishing Point") and there's a place in my heart for it, I have to admit the remake did something that's rare: Improve on the original.
