In the House Financial Services Committee, Rep. Biggert explains her alternative proposal for better protecting consumers against unfair and deceptive practices in the financial marketplace. Offered as a substitute for a bill that would create a costly new agency, Biggerts amendment would empower consumers with stronger, smarter financial regulation -- without levying new fees on customers and businesses, limiting consumer choices, or imposing confusing and conflicting regulatory mandates that could jeopardize the safety and soundness of financial institutions.
