Assemblywoman Nancy Calhoun (R, C Blooming Grove) , Assemblyman Greg Ball (R, C, I Patterson), and Assemblyman Marc Molinaro (R, C, I Tivoli-on-Hudson) called for a forensic audit of the Metropolitan Transit Authority at the Salisbury Mills-Cornwall Train Station on May 11th. While there have been studies on improving the MTA services, such as the one conducted by the Ravitch Commission, the MTA has only conducted two internal audits: one in 2002 regarding their payroll system; followed by another a few years later to audit the LIRR pension fund. The MTA bailout legislation does allow for the MTA to conduct internal audits and would also allow the State Senate and Assembly to jointly call for an audit every other year.
Putnam County Legislator Dan Birmingham (R, C, I Brewster), State Assemblyman Ball, State Senator Vincent Leibell (R, C, I Patterson) and Westchster Legislator George Oros (R, C, I Peekskill) announced they were drafting a letter to Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver calling for a forensic audit of the MTA and soliciting their legislative colleagues from both sides of the aisle to cosign on May 9th at Yorktown High School.
I wish the Republican parts of upstate NY + parts of Republican CT and MA could secede and form their own contiguous State.
