On Monday, Nov. 21, 2011, Mitt Romney released his first campaign ad, which quotes President Obama saying "if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose." But those weren't Obama's words; he was quoting a strategist for Sen. John McCain in 2008.

In response, the Romney campaign has defended this blatantly dishonest campaign tactic as "not out of bounds." Thus, ThinkProgress has created this completely in-bounds "advertisement" quoting Romney, in his own words.

Yesterday, Mitt Romney released his first campaign ad, which quotes President Obama saying "if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose." But those weren't Obama's words; he was quoting a strategist for Sen. John McCain in 2008.

  • I'm an optimist. Willard Romney isn't half empty; he's half full!

  • Okay- I am anti-Romney just as much as the next person, but these are just clips taken totally out of context! Even though I really dislike him, I wouldn't do this as it's just making him look like he said stuff that he didn't! I could say "I completely disagreed when Bob said that Indians shouldn't live in the USA" and then if someone just took the last bit, it would look as though I was really racist. It's just not right to take people's words out of context no matter how much you dislike them

  • @hlq91 not this bad

  • @kjpires No, no. YOU come on. You come on. It's called irony.

  • Anything can sound bad when you take incomplete clips out of context.

  • @Tpayne334 are you really this stupid? Read the video description.

  • that was all bullshit taken out of context. He was most likely quoting Obama word for word

  • It's obvious that things are taken out of the contacts but he's full speach isn't far from this 20 second video. For example he says our tax rates have to be comperative for big corporations because they are job creators and he wants big buisnesses to come to United states. But that quote is a purposely missleading way to give the rich more tax cuts and brakes. Romney is a snake he cannot be trusted people need to wake up Romney does not care about middle class.
