Unita d' Strada: Speaking w/ Sex Workers in Turin

Each week at TAMPEP we do street units or unit d'strade (in italian). We speak with different girls that doing prostitution. Many of the ones we targeted this day were Nigerian..many of which have been trafficked into Italy.

shooting this video is not the best thing you should do for them help them stop. give them money set up some solid for them bcuz giving threm condom is encouraging them the more.

So overall it's a very complex matter. I think the most important thing is that these people are put in a terrible situation and it is very hard to get them out of it. During three years freelancing for an NGO on the same subject, our organization managed to get about a dozen girls out of their environment and got the trafickers convicted. This is a proces that can take up to years for one individual, but it is very rewarding.

For certain regions that may be correct. However, it is very difficult to come up with exact numbers as illegal sexworkers change territory very frequently. You also have to take into consideration the numbers are based on declarations from the prostitutes. For example many nigerians claim to be from Sierra Leone or Sudan, many russians claim to be Albanian, as Albania is now part of the EU. Then there is also the hidden prostitution, people who work underground, from private adresses.

I have watch some other reports which portrail Albanian girls as the most victim.

I don't have the Italian numbers, but where I live the percentage of prostitutes that are from Nigeria is around 50%.

The reason they can't do other jobs is due to the fact that they are illegal and in many cases victims of human trafficing and sold into slavery. So they are working for pimps.

Really, to what percentage are Nigerians? Is there no other jobs they can do?

Many of them actually ARE nigerians. Just go there by yourself, so you can see with your own eyes.
