GM celebrates its 100th birthday by giving us a gift: the cool-looking Volt.

  • yea that telsa is sweeet, plus it actually LOOKS like a 50 grand car, nice European styling, and great performance. wonder how much it is after all the options like the 300 mile battery

  • I think (but am not sure) they call it an electric vehicle because the wheels run only on electrical power. The gas engine runs to charge the battery. It is really a gorgeous car and I hear it rides ultra-smooth. Let's hope for the best!

  • @heartlessvietboy Good goly youre a fucking idiot.

  • There is a better method of transportation. And Chevrolet has the idea down right. We are wasting too much gasoline and polluting the air by needlessly driving here and there.

  • Okay, a quick update... I maybe wrong about the price point on the Volt. Though I don't know what the non-tax funded amount is (much is given to GM before they even try to sell it), I know that it isn't $41k before gov't money is added to it. The after manufacture rebate of $7500 is nothing compared to what this would cost without the gov't help (see the Tesla sedan for cost comparison).

  • I did the math:

I drive 75 to 100 miles a day, live in a town house where I park on the street (no plugging in at night) and no place to plug in at work. Basically I'd be driving it as a hybrid with 40 mph for $41k (after gov't tax rebate) or $85k straight buy.

A Ford Fussion hybrid costs $20k (is that with rebate?) and gets 40 mph. If I could plug-in a Nissan Leaf gets 100 miles to a charge (more than Volt's 40) and costs under $40k (no rebate).

What's the point of this car?

  • do you know what a drivetrain even is...? how does that even have anything to do with the original point? volt is not cost efficient at this point...you save SOME money on gas, but not enough to justify spending an extra 15 grand over a conventional gas auto.

  • The Chevrolet Volt is not Novelty. It has one of the most advanced drive-trains on the road today.

  • GM didn't kill the electric car. They brought it back and made it even better.

  • i love this car and i want one when i get older

  • i love this car

  • false, the engine charge the battery
