Countdown to createurope: THE FASHION DESIGN AWARD 2009, announcing the 30 new finalists.

The 30 finalists of the second international fashion competition createurope: THE FASHION DESIGN AWARD, were announced last Saturday after much anticipation at a press conference during the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. In the presence of Dirk Schönberger, Creative Director of Joop! and patron of createurope, and in the historic ballroom of the renowned "Hotel de Rome on Bebelplatz, the public was invited to look through the finalists portfolios and interest for an exciting competition finale in October grew. The selection is incredibly international, coming from Morocco, Denmark, Turkey, Finland, England, Bulgaria, Spain, Russia and Israel.

The choice of the finalists and the significance of the competition was animatedly discussed by a number of journalists and speakers, amongst which were Dirk Bonn, artist, creative designer and member of this years panel; Dr. Michael Jeismann, Director of the Goethe Institute Head Office and Cem Cako, one of the finalists of the previous year. "My job is often very controlled, and it is easy to sometimes forget how much creativity there is out there, Dirk Schönberger said while explaining his involvement in createurope. "Young designers have the benefit of being able to give their all without having to think about whether what they are doing is commercially viable.

More than 1000 participants from 59 European countries applied and sent in their collection concepts to the international fashion competition in 2009. On 23rd October 2009 the winners will be decided by a second jury of fashion and art professionals from all over Europe, after a final catwalk show to which all the 30 finalists have been invited.
