Episode 14 of Game Rental Theater is here! I had this subbed ages ago but never got it polished for Youtube until this afternoon.

So yes, here's to Jak X: Combat Racing. As I stated in the video, I followed the series since its interception, getting to the point that the original Jak and Daxter ended up being the first PS2 game I ever purchased. I found it to be pretty fun for its time, yet became equally impressed with later titles in the series; for me, Jak II was its peak of its prime and I loved it so much, but Jak 3, while it had some good improved gameplay, lacked the predecessor's strong storytelling and had some awkward turns that made me uncomfortable (Jak x Ashelin pair-up, anyone?). Concerns about that kind of change and whether Jak would fit in the racing genre made me decide against buying it when it first came out.

Either way, I rented the game and plowed through it, even to the point that I ended up having to take it home from the University campus I was at at the time of the recording (done over 3 months ago). I opted for a circuit race early on in the game and went for a scene in Haven City, namely because it makes me think of good times that I had with Jak II, even though there were changes set from Jak 3. I weren't expecting it to have all these twists and turns though. -_-

But still, I raced well. I enjoyed the concept of it and was even reminded of Crash Team Racing in its setup. I just wish you could pick other characters to drive other than Jak (like I said I would have liked to race as Sig personally). And don't mind the purple paint job; I was trying a Spyro color scheme on my car ^_^*

For information on the audio outside from the narration and in-game sound, see the Viewtiful Joe segment.

Thanks for all comments in advance :)

  • just out of interest are you planning on getting the new jak game. i have the ps2 version and enjoyed it a lot

  • I don't know yet. If anything I plan to get the PSP version, but a lot of the feedback I've seen regarding it has been weaker than anticipated. I know that Spyro has had its fair share of awkward reviews too, but it's telling me that something might've gone wrong with the enthusiasm behind the development.

I'm still gonna go for it, though probably not right now O_o

  • sorry but you are weird .. or just needs to work on your speaking abilitys!!!!!!!!=~Þ

  • I'd probably say the latter. I get a lot of beef over my voice for some reason (I put it down to my birth condition if anything) so I hope it doesn't end up being too much of a pain in the butt. o_O

  • Great job on that Viva presentation.

  • Thanks, even though that was nearly 4 months ago @_@

  • i fail so hard at these kind of tracks! lol!

  • man i luv the jak and daxter games but the only thing i hate in jak x is that on sewer raceway i crash 24/7 and pisses me off :P

  • o lol i didnt meant o be mean

  • by the way, that vid's only 1 sec. under the limit! LOL!

  • the black thing happens when you flip over, not a glitch. Nice vid. I still hate the sewers on that game, other than that it's awesome!

  • The black screen - the one you identify as a "graphical glitch" - appears when you land on the topside of your vehicle very quickly. Not really a glitch, just saves time from you manually having to turn yourself back over. ^_^ Very inquisitive video, though.
