~ " FITTED UP

From 16th February it will be punishable by up to ten years in the nick to elicit or attempt to elicit information about members of the armed forces, intelligence services or policemen, where this information could be of use to a terrorist. This rather vaguely worded term (in the Counter Terrorism Act) is another of the governments and polices rather sweeping authoritarian laws that is just one more attack on traditional civil liberties. "Information that could be of use to a terrorist" is a rather vague and catch-all term.

On being caught with any information involving police you need to show a reasonable excuse for holding the information, whatever reasonable is deemed to mean. For people who have been involved in social struggles and come up against the state it is perfectly reasonable to make notes of police misbehaviour and taking their photos and collar numbers - despite being a perfectly legal (and sensible) thing to do - could warrant arrest.

The Government and police make no apologies for hassling photo journalists. In a letter to the National Union of Journalists, the Minister for security and counter-terrorism Vernon Coaker, justified police harassment of anyone using a camera in public, saying that, This may be on the grounds of national security or there may be situations in which the taking of photographs may cause or lead to public order situations or inflame an already tense situation or raise security considerations. Yeah right public order situation police stopping and searching someone on a demo, you get your camera and observe the situation, police tell you to move you on, you say no, they get heavy handed and push you around... Hey Presto! Public Order Situation!A graphic example of the way police hassle photographers was seen at the anti-BBC Gaza demo on 24th January when a member of the police Forward Intelligence Team (U3037) grabbed journalist Justin Tallis who had taken a photo of him, tried to get the camera off him and said Youre not allowed to take photos of police officers. The only way to oppose this legislation is to resist any police repression of the right to publish information about police misbehaviour and the activities of the political police units: the National Extremism Tactical Coordination Unit and the Forward Intelligence Teams.

  • New laws to protect the police daily bit they told us "If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" then they make it an offence to film them haha what do they fear.

  • Scrutiny, accountablity, and being found to be culpable?

  • @ELGROOVER

exactly but they are now above the law their law or I should say their compant policy known as statutes which are not lawfull only legal in a fiction worls WAKE UP people.

  • You're relating to the Freeman movement regarding statutes. I've yet to be convinced that courts are as obliging, as some claim they are, when confronted with someone who doesn't consent to play their statute game. I find it very hard to believe that people who try to evade the trap of consenting to a statute law contract aren't found to be in contempt of court then fined and/or imprisoned!? Waking up is necessary, yes, but then what? As you say, it's not like they play by their own rules.

  • @ELGROOVER

Yes the movement must gather momento they enforce their contracts upon us humans but each day breach the very statutes they enfoece whilst erroding our liberty and freedom.

long live the people we must unite its all an illusion check out john harris on this site.

  • "If you've got nothing to hide why are you afraid of being filmed!", specious logic but regardless IT'S YOUR LOGIC now you have the temerity to BAN people from videoing you? You don't even care anymore WHAT people think, that's how far things have degreaded.

  • Its all because we're rapidly moving into a total POLICE STATE environment where the people are lowly SERFS with no rights....yet we must "obey" the brown shirts & lick their boots. Because "they" can do NO WRONG- therefore no "need" for cameras- police wouldn't be disciplined anyhow! It will be we, the slaves that are "guilty before proven innocent." Nazi cops will be given the power (by way of Bush's unconstitutional Patriot Act) to abuse us as they see fit!

  • We need to go back to old times. The "higher power" people in the government should remember. It was a time where if your government didn't follow the law or weren't fair they were killed or stripped of their power.

  • I should never be photographed in public !!!!!

This infringes on my ability to do something that I don't want other people to know I did.

  • the anti-fascists over here and the UK must join ranks to fight the new world fascist order. our freedoms will soon be completely gone. it's unbelievable what the so called free western world has become. our countries are no more than an outpost of Stalinist russia.

  • thanks for that vid. and the music

  • I have taken many many photos of the police at work and NEVER had a problem because....

    A. I always let them know what I am doing

    B. I don't have to but because i have manners I always ask

    C. when refused I am happy to oblige and take pictures of another scene

    D. I don't seek to go out and deliberately upset folk I am photographing

  • i live in the US and i thought it was pretty bad here
