Members of Deckchairs Overboard, Cathy McQuade and John Clifforth are briefly seen interviewed by Sydney comedian the late, Lance Curtis ( in the guise of his 2JJJ FM character, Wayne Simpson) who introduces the band's clip for "Walking In The Dark". Curtis occasionally hosted 80's Saturday morning Music Video TV show "Sounds" filling in for regular host Donnie Sutherland.
This is the 1st version of the music video made for the single. The clip was made after the departure of original drummer Paul Hester who went on to join Split Enz and eventually Crowded House. Another original member, Ken Campbell - who's seen in the clip playing acoustic guitar, had left by the time this clip was aired.
The band had morphed from an edgy, scratchy, urban funk ensemble (not unlike Britain's Gang Of Four) into a more conventional and slickly produced pop group.
This version of the music video was considered way too sombre and off beat by the record company and was remade at much greater expense using the same U.S. clip maker who was flown out to direct the rather absurd tourist-like "Fight For Love" clip ( found elsewhere on You-tube). The new version of " Walking In The Dark" is as equally absurd and features images of "night surfing"!! and beach scenes under cheesy post generated night skies...the end was nigh! Nevertheless, many consider "Walking In The Dark" an underrated 80s Oz pop classic.
3 things worth of living: my wife, my son and the 80's :)

Well dug up. I've missed this for 25 of my 31 years; this has me in tears and is still damned cool.
