Quazar was a ten-piece funk band from the Plainsfield, NJ, area created by Kevin Goins, the brother of Parliament/Funkadelic lead singer and guitarist Glen Goins. Originally known as Eclipse, the band woodshedded for six years before cutting their first and only album, Quazar, released September 1978 on Arista Records. The delay was caused by Glens involvement and commitment with the P-Funk organization. The ball didnt get rolling until Glen quit over money (what else) and had the time to shape the band into an exciting and marketable commodity. The complete lineup consisted of Kevin (guitar, vocals), Richard Banks (keyboards, vocals), Eugene Jackson (bass, vocals), Jefferey Adams (drums), Gregory Fitz (keyboards), Peachena (vocals), Darryl Dixon (saxophone), Monica Peters (trumpet), Daryl De Lomberto (percussion), and Harvey Banks (guitar). Everything went on schedule until Glens untimely death in 1978 halfway through the recording of their album. Another ex-Parliament/Funkadelic alumni, Jerome Brailey, helped them complete the album for Arista. They opened concerts for Roy Ayers, Cameo, and others but never overcame Glens death and, without their mentor, faded from the scene.

  • @ddixon HI, DARRYL. Just wanted to reach out and thank you for a memory that i received in 7th grade and is still with me today! "LET QUAZAR MAKE U DANCE!"

  • @ddixon Thanks for the grooves, man...

  • well put together .....

    funktastic

  • Brilliant track from an amazing band, thanks for posting.

  • @gandhara3 This is Darryl Dixon. I was the sax player who worked with Quazar and Glen. We both left P-Funk at the same time, along with Jerome Brailey. There are 4 horns on this particular tune. Quazar had only two horns, me and Monica Peters

  • ive listened to alot of soul jazz funk and groove over the years.. but nothing has ever been as cool as that track.. seriously.. that is a bad ass amazing groove..

  • Had Glen Goins lived on, this band would have taken over in the 80's.

  • Damn good

  • Quazar was one of the best funk bands ever, but it lasted only 1 album.

  • PLAINFIELD, NJ (no "s")
