The Wizards were part of the vibrant mid-80's NJ/NY music scene based at Maxwell's in Hoboken New Jersey, where they played a role something akin to the Traveling Wilburys--a super-group of sorts, whose members hailed from various prominent and obscure NJ and Long Island bands.
Comprised of the Gene Casey (of The Lone Sharks) and Vincent Casey on vocals and guitars, Dave Goessling (of WKGB and The Secret Admirers) on vocals and guitar, and Rob Norris and Frank Giannini (of The Bongos) on bass, drums and vocals, the band boasted three main songwriters, two incredible lead guitarists and five lead singers--at the heart of which was the Casey brothers heavenly harmonies.
The Wizards recorded a six-song EP at Water Music in Hoboken in 1988/89, which remains unreleased, and a collectors item, to this day. Vincent Casey's song Flippin' Out was recorded by The Gigolo Aunts and released as the title track by their CD by that name.
On July 26th 2008 The Wizards reunited (after twenty years), sharing a double bill with The Individuals (reunited after twenty five years) as part of Maxwell's 30th Anniversary Celebration. They were joined onstage at Maxwell's, just as they were in the studio in 1988, by Dave's brother Andy Goessliing (of Railroad Earth). There is a full DVD of The Wizards set, shot by Phil Marino, in the works (selections of which will be appearing on YouTube, along with rare live footage from the 80's), as well as three songs from the July 26th Maxwell's show filmed by Nora Giannini, of which this is one. The entire Wizards' July 26th Maxwell's set is available from time to time as a bit torrent in the usual places--Enjoy!
