History of Baghdad تاريخ بغداد

In about 762 A.D., the Abbasid dynasty took over rule of the vast Muslim world and moved the capital to the newly-founded city of Baghdad. Over the next five centuries, the city would become the world's center of education and culture. This period of glory has become known as the "Golden Age" of Islamic civilization, when scholars of the Muslim world made important contributions in both the sciences and humanities: medicine, mathematics, astronomy, chemistry, literature, and more.
The city of Baghdad was finally trashed by the Mongols in 1258 A.D., effectively ending the era of the Abbasids. The Tigris and Euphrates Rivers reportedly ran red, with the blood of thousands of scholars (a reported 100,000 of Baghdad's million residents were massacred). Many of the libraries, irrigation canals, and great historical treasures were looted and forever ruined.
The city began a long period of decline, and became host to numerous wars and battles; Persians 1507, 1530, 1625, Ottomans 1534, 1638, British 1917, 1941, 1991, 2003 and Americans 1991, 2003.

It's sad how the beautiful greatness of this city was lost in the sands of time. Imagine the great architecture, the mosques, walls and palaces of this great city trashed and destroyed, never to be seen again. Once, Islam was the jewel of the world. That day could always cone again.

I was a soldier During the 1991 Iraq war, the city was not involved don't mis educate it makes the rest of the claims seem illegitimate. The Coalition forces stoped short of The Cities and only fought Iraqi army in the surrounding desert. operations stoped and the Iraqis surrendered and where allowed to keep their remaining armour army. we should have occupyed tehn but we did not the main reason for war was suddams attack on Kuwait and its liberation for Iraqi Forces.

wooow a million residents in a city in 13th century AD and the 6th century AH =) Just amazing,,,I always imagine how it looked like at its best,,,do u ever imagine?? how Baghdad looked like or how its looked like from a panorma view??? or how the people dressed , ate, talked, and how their lifestyle was??? and how the market and the mosques were???

كلمة بغداد سامية وليست فارسية وهي ايضا اشورية هناك قرية شمال العراق تسمى بخديدا! وهي فعلا ارامية قبل الفارسية بالاف السنين واللغة العربية موجوده قبل الاسلام في المناذره والحضر مسيح العراق اول من كان يتكلم العربية واصول اللغة العربية هي الاكدية العراقية

أخي إذا لم تفهم خليك بعيد ... بغداد هي كلمه ذات آصل آرامي = باب الآله بكداد بيت بكدادا بكدادو واللغه الآراميه قريبه جداً من اللغه العربيه لأنهما لغتان ساميتان (أصل حضارات العراق) ... فإجاب عوعو الفارسي بالنُصْ ؟؟؟ آللهُ أكبر ..إذا ما تفتهم خليك بعيد إنت وعوعو الفارسي
