fooling around with a uke strung using fishing line.
Sorry for bad quality (due to a really cheap camera).
I like this pleasant sound indeed.
Fishing line used : fluorocarbon
A : 50/100 mm
E : 25/100 mm
C : 40/100 mm
G : 50/100 mm

C and E strings are tuned an octave higher than "regular" tuning.

  • nice idea -- might catch on.

  • Hi friend,

If you experiment fishing lines for stringing, I'd be very interested in the result, gauge used, etc... This setting is great to me except the E string which is really thin (you might not tell if there's a string or not there at 1 meter...). It seems to handle the tension since two weeks, but I wonder if it will not break one day, though I saw tahitian ukuleles with strings as thin as this.

Best wishes from across the ponds ;)

  • Instant mandolin! Love it.

(I wonder what you'd get if you used tapered flyfishing leaders.)

  • Glad you like it,

It's really worth the try. I live in a small town and don't have a wide choice of fishing line, but I'm glad with this setting for now.

    Hello from France :)
