I watched this frame by frame at the point where the hawk strikes at the base of whatever is on the patio and saw nothing in it's talons or beak that looked like a sparrow as it flies upward. The camera goes off the subject for a few seconds then finds the hawk again on the fence with the sparrow in its talon. I think he flushed it out and caught it in flight.
Very thrilling to see. I would also give mattedmonds' left nut to have seen it!
I would give my left nut to see that in person! VERY COOL video! Thanks for sharing!! I loved how he know there was a bird hiding under the grill(?) and kept after it.
A Coopers Hawk got a Dove at my birdfeeder last week. It was both shockingly sad and exciting at the same time. The Dove was already hurt pretty bad by the time I saw it, so I didn't try to chase the Hawk. Besides I didn"t feel I should mess with nature
good video! I have a Cooper's Hawk that hangs around my bird feeder every few days and those birds freak out when he shows up. He has not caught a bird yet but I know he will one of these days. Nature at it's finest!
@DJBroFlex Nope, he's right.
It's definitely a Cooper's.
Sharp-shinned's look quite a bit like Cooper's, though.
