Two CODEPINK women arrested at Condi Rice Hearing in Senate

Shortly after noon today, two members of CODEPINK Women for Peace were arrested following a Senate Appropriations sub-committee hearing in which Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice had been testifying.

They were detained after the hearing had been adjourned by chairman of the State/Foreign Operations sub-committee chairman, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT). Police claim they had the right to arrest the CODPINK women because they allegedly unfurled a banner with the message " STOP FUNDING WAR" immediately after the hearing had concluded. As the arrests were being made, a Capitol Police officer said that the two were being charged with Disorderly Conduct, The women would be taken to the Capitol Police station at 1st & D NE to be processed.

As she was being led away in handcuffs, Gael Murphy was saying, "Our First Amendment right are being violated."
