India and China are experiencing unprecedented levels of growth. The worlds tallest buildings, largest airports, fastest trains, and biggest dams are now all to be found in the developing world, and China and India may soon become the world's largest economies. The WORLDbytes crew filmed this 2008 Battle of Ideas Festival debate which WORLDwrite co-organised with the Emerging Economies forum. In this report, speakers from around the world answer the question; can China and India catch up with the West?

yea in 50 years time theyll be poppin, then they'll be mass immigrations to ghetto America and revitalize that as well to make a proportionate population. at least thats what should happen, but their should still be alot of people in India and China to keep the power at peace.

When they say "catch up with the West" they don't just mean in terms of the size of the economy. They mean in terms of how well off the average person in that country is, the countries infa-structure and welfare and power on the world stage.

news flash. China is already the biggest economy in the world according to the world bank. And they have already caught up to the west. China will soon be the biggest solar producers too.

I think it's imperative that they do catch up. We cannot expect the world to be predominantly, culturally post-enlightenment until countries currently impoverished have the chance to live comfortably, safely and freely. I personally cannot wait to see what comes from cultural explosions and revolutions in places such as China and India. We will all prosper from this.
