Julius Caesar was killed on the steps of the Theatre of Pompey, and the spot he was believed to be assassinated is in the square.

There is probably a great deal more in tact than can be seen in excavations....as much of the theatre that was left after being striped of the valueble stone was built upon to make fortresses that became the medievel building there today.

wow. if this building was not damaged by earthquakes, and people removing the structure for thier own use, then this building would still be intact.
