yeah, I don't think they're transparent, they have to have a white and a black part, unless you can use polarization like with LCDs... Somehow.

i thought e paper was completely opaque, which is the reason why a backlight is not possible

This makes me think. If they could somehow make the screens transparent, they could layer them and make a 3d image.
