A very nice combination i played in a 5 minutes game

OK...

I haven't looked at this page in roughly two years and when I did I was amazed to discover that: first, over 67,000 people watched it by now! (it's currently 7/7/2011 18:15) and that it has over 200 comments.

What was even more surprising is the amount of courses and blames by literally hundreds of people all claiming that this is not my own doing but rather a game by vague GMs or even that of Paul Morphy.

The funny thing about that is that no one managed to provide a proof that this game has ever been played at GM level. Why? Because no GM (as black) would ever blunder away his Queen!
Similarly, no one has showed which of Morphy's games demonstrated such moves. Why? Because it was played by myself.

It is very likely that in over 70 million games of chess played in the last few hundreds of years that such a theme took place before the same as it will show up again in the future.

I don't believe it is the complexity of the position that sparked so many to childish proof-less accusations but rather its unique Knight demonstration that illustrates its visual beauty.

In any rate, this game was indeed played by me.
To answer some of the many questions:

* I am rated 2200+ elo (though I was lower rated at the time this game took place)
* You can find this game (though slightly edited) at ICC. I have previously submitted it to trainingbot.

As for my name and location, that information is private and will only be given to those I trust.

Your awe and kind words are much appreciated as do those accusations and bad language because at day's end it only shows your fascination and fondness of the combination.

Thanks

  • @Crabitat ...definitely that one must not only grapple with problems on the board;", (as you suggest), "one must also make every effort to combat the thoughts and will of the opponent". Tal won the World Championship not by playing moves a computer would say are, "the best", but by using moves that disturbed his opponents the most, which you apparently term as a, "blunder". A successful chess player doesn't use computer moves, as they aren't playing a computer, but a human being. Good luck.

  • you sacrificed the queen?! your own wife?! for victory?!?? I dont know how you could truly accept this as a victory...

  • nice combination

  • Black plays blunder move but you play better than blunder move

    Sothat you must win

  • In this moment is when somebody says "LOL".

  • Was ...Qc6 after Qa4 really necessary or just a blunder? Brilliant combination though, Ng5 after ...b6 was wonderful!

  • boss.

  • To take is a mistake.

  • When I first looked at the combination, I assumed it would've been a really long game like a 2 hour game, but when I read that it was a 5 minute game, I was truly in awe!

  • That's a Danish Gambit, right?

  • My favorite opening with white too
