These are my fav. lathes, My ex boss Walter Denton, (he's dead now) designed a power supply for our 10EE with an armature brake, stopped instantly.

They still make these machines? That's quite old fashioned.

Ahh the good ol machines they just keep going, what is it they knew then that they dont know now?
-
Did you simply replace the motor starter with a VFD to control motor speed or is it more complex.

If you want a Monarch 10EE new they are around $80,000 to $100,000. You can pick them up used from $3,000 on up depending on age and features. Mine is a 1942 model.

That's insane! Truthfully, who would spend $100,000 on a 10" lathe?
douro20 9 months ago
@douro20 The same people who have bought them in the past, National Labs, large corporations, anyone who really needs the best lathe in the world. If you account for inflation the cost of a 10EE really has not changed much since their inception.

Round dial Monarch used a mechanical tachometer. So they only work in forward. But since it is a servo drive when I set the forward speed it pretty much guarantees the reverse speed will be the same.
The square dial version of the EE has a electric tachometer that is driven off a small generator in the head. It will work in both directions.

Could this setup support C-axis operations or?

The servo drive does support step and direction inputs so if you do have software that supports c axis then it should work.
