Coventry Carol
Choir with treble solo
The words are taken from the 15th century pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors in the English midland city of Coventry.
Music by the English composer Kenneth Leighton (1929-1988), who taught music at the universities of Leeds, Edinburgh and Oxford.
I totally agree w/ stew (below), but NOT w/ Garvain66 (two down). Check out various versions of another piece here, "Tomorrow Shall By My Dancing Day". The LESS traditional versions (harmonies) are almost boring by comparison. Same applies here, I think. Bring it on!

Someone needs to comment on the fabulous videography of ALL the videos. That just further enhances the absolutely beautiful works and choir direction. Overall experience = Wow!

beautiful arrangement and fantastic voices but I am still of the opinion the piece would have sounded absolutely perfect with the same voices but with a more traditional arrangement...why mess with something that is better

The arrangement finally 'bows down' to traditional harmonies in the final phase. This may not be entirely pleasing to strict traditionalists...

What a perfect version of Coventry Carol. Beautifully sung by angels.

I just love the solo in this wonderfully executed, as we have all come to expect and admire. Cleobury is just like Prizeman in that he is able to bring out the absolute best in the choirboys in his care!
