3rd Annual 5K Schoolhouse Run - CCYR / WHCAA

The 3rd Annual 5k Schoolhouse Run, sponsored by Christmas Charities Year Round (CCYR) and the William Hooper Councill High Alumni Association (WHCAA) was held on October 3, 2009.

Christmas Charities Year Round is a United Way non-profit that has been serving Madison County's needy residents since 1949. CCYR assists our less fortunate neighbors by providing basic necessities as donated clothing, appliances and school supplies. William Hooper Councill High School was founded in 1867, in the basement of Lakeside Methodist Episcopal Church located on Jefferson Street in Huntsville, Alabama.. The school was relocated to a frame building on the present site in 1892.From 1892-1966, This site was the first and only public high school (grades 1-12) for African-Americans in the city of Huntsville, Alabama. The school was named for the founder of Alabama A&M University, Normal Alabama.

WHCAA Goals 1.Renovate and/or rebuild all or a portion of the building 2.Enlist tenants for both commercial and non-profit businesses 3.Develop a functioning cultural and commercial establishment 4.Offer training, education, entertainment and small business opportunities
