Blind Cash Gets His Last Milk

This is our blind foal Cash, who got his last bucket of milk this morning. Because he came to us at the tender age of four weeks, we've been feeding him mare milk replacer every day. But he is turning six months old next week, so we've been slowing weaning him off his milk. Today was the final day ... and he seemed to know it, because he went for every last drop in that bucket, then came after me for more!

In nature, the foal is not weaned suddenly. Young horses will occasionally take a drink from their dams until they're about 2, or even a bit older. It's not natural to wean them suddenly and if you want to emulate natural herd behavior, you won't wean him "cold turkey" but will instead just taper off naturally.

@chiefpony1 His eyes are clouded, if you look closely. But a lot of blind horses, especially those that are born blind or become blind at an early age, don't act blind.
