These rods load lower down the blank creating a more open loop. The result is easier presentation of heavy indicator rigs. No more tangles. The stiffer tip won't "buckle" under heavier rig loads. The larger stripping and snake guides allow for easy stack mending and line "shake-out." The new 99 series fishes like a 10' fly rod, but casts like a 9'6'' fly rod.

Heavy telephone poles, but good for nymphing larger rivers though. Feels like a bull in a china shop on most waters under 3-400 CFS. Definitely a specialized tool. Great for the lower Sac, Lower Yuba, Truckee etc.
