Felix Rohatyn is famed as the man who saved NYC from its financial crisis of the 1970s, as well as a leading financier, diplomat, and voice for public responsibility. Moderated by Charlie Rose, this conversation includes the public in what is a unique, reasoned, and detailed discussion of the origins, and perhaps solutions to the current upheaval.

The analogy of the bailout is like bailing out a sinking ship rowed along by a crew of useless parasites. We must purge the world of financial derivatives and regulate hedge funds out of existence.

LaRouche says that we must put a freeze on foreclosures, let the bankrupt vultures die off but retain the banking functions, put the system in bankruptcy reorganisation, and hold a new International Monetary Conference, a New Bretton Woods with Fixed exchange rate parities immediately. The floating exchange system is a disease which turns world currencies into poker chips to be gambled upon by parasites.

What most politicians and financial experts want is a global economy. Unfortunately, a leveling or parity of wages between countries will occur. In other words, what can we produce that China, India, Mexico and a host of poorer nations can't produce cheaper? I am not looking forward to trying to become competitive with a Chinese laborer who's average income is $250 a month. If you can jump this hurdle there are only 10 more to go for a full recovery.
