Many people think of goldfish as the common household pet that many people keep in a bowl as kids. Anyone who kept a goldfish will probably remember who short-lived they are...but not these ones!

This is how goldfish SHOULD be appreciated! With a good-sized tank and proper care they can live for decades, and with the variety of fancy goldfish breeds they can provide you with hours of fasination. Even non-aquarists have to admit how hypnotically beautiful a well-kept aquarium can be.

In this tank are 2 chocolate orandas and one calico oranda exhibiting normal, healthy behaviour.

Filmed using a cell phone, so please excuse the quality.

  • Thanks for all the comments everyone!

Just to address some of the questions in the comments left here over the past few years - I still keep my orandas and they are still full of energy! I keep them in a 60litre tank which is well aerated with a good filtration system and just feed them regular gold fish flakes (although they do get the occassional freeze-dried treat!).

If anyone else wants to post a video response of their own fish I'd love to see it!

  • Normal healthy behaviour would be them dashing back and forth almost restless? Mine are a bit too lazy...

  • @xnermeenx - My fish tend to get very excited like this every time they see me approaching the tank. They don't dash around quite so madly if I stay back to watch them and they certainly don't do it to other people (in fact, they usually hide if it's someone unfamiliar). Of course I can't film them without getting close, so what you get to see are some very excitable goldies :)
