Carried on to balcony of Birla House in full view of all. Crowds milling around 4.5 miles of funeral route. Earl and Countess Mountbatten in mourners. Funeral coach drawn by members of State Services for five hours along 4 mile route. Earl and Countess Mountbatten sitting within few feet of funeral pyre. Mahatma's son sets alight to sandal-wood logs in pyre. Good shots of pillar of flame and smoke

  • Although I dont fully agree with his principle of non violence, he is a great man who was instrumental in winning freedom for our country.
