In 1973 Allan Bakke was denied admission to UC Davis Medical School even though the school admitted 16 "diversity" applicants with much lower scores that year.

In a landmark 1978 Supreme Court case "Bakke v. Regents of the University of California" it was ordered that Bakke be admitted but the court still allowed race to be taken into consideration as a "plus factor".

Affirmative action remains contentious to this day.

If you would like to see your state join California, Washington, Michigan and Nebraska in outlawing quotas in public employment, public education, or public contracting please visit the American Civil Rights Institute www.acri.org.

  • What does your video have to do with Obama's comment?

  • Note: whyalltheproblems Q is in reference to the fact that I posted this video as a response to Obama's comments on the Gates arrest.

-Race has clouded judgment in both cases.

I believe the antidote is to look at the facts apart from race, how would things look if the races were reversed. The diversity applicants would have never been accepted if their skin was white. Gates would still have been arrested if he was white.

    Thanks for watching.

  • Whew. Thank goodness we don't have an affirmative action POTUS. Oh wait ....

  • @TheJames1745 that's the nicest thing someone has said to me in a long time hahaha thanx

  • @ajsaccount1991 Amen. You obviously do have character.

  • If Michael Jackson had Allan Bakke for his doctor,he may still be alive.

  • Good summation of the case, but it goes way too fast in some spots, and is hard to read in some spot as well.

One of the most disturbing things is how the media touted this case as a justification for affirmative action/diversity goals(or whatever they are calling it now), but they remain silent when their poster boy turned out to be incompetent. It is hypocrisy of the media who have an agenda and will print anything that favors it , but not print real stories that would oppose it.

  • Affirmative Action is unconstitutional and anti-American. As an ASIAN (almost as likely to be rejected from colleges than whites) I say abolish this policy and start admitting people based on CHARACTER, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILL. Not by skin color/religion/nationality/sex/etc.

  • This video has a strong message, inadequately presented.

Please review and revise for readability. You have plenty

of time to present your message, so please SLOW DOWN!

    Thanks for posting, though.

  • Well, for starters, the text was nearly impossible to read in some places because there was not enough contrast.

  • This is a great post. I would like to link to it, but I would feel better about it if the poster would correct a grammatical error. At some point the text uses the word "who's" as a possessive. The correct word there is "whose."

  • It should be noted that Bakke was put into the University's program after the Supreme Court decision. Yet, there were still several applicants that had higher scores than he did, and should have gotten that spot instead of him!
