@Kristopful, you could just learn Italian. It would be cheaper for everyone. And the arts are hurting as the economy shrinks leaving the 1% to cover all the costs of production.

The best bass singer Mr. Ramey.Thank you for entertaining and educating us .Every one loves him ,his great full voice, his act's,The best opera singer.Marie J Johnson.

This scene has probably caused more sinners to repent than all the televangelists combined!

This is my all time favourite Opera Piece. I've never seen the subtitles to this piece, which revealed much I felt,. but did not understand before. I loved the "Amadeus" version which had the passion but it lacked subtitles. The ordinary? person needs to know what is being said, otherwise it is great music without comprehension, which can become nothing more than "noise" to those who know nothing of Opera and it's passion. Let us have subtitles like this, so ALL can enjoy the magic of this music

@thesir27 You're right. it was Mazzel (I must ahve been thinking of the Cenerontola film Abado di conduct).
My criticism is valid. Film a live performance is useless. One of the reasons opera is held back is when the curious tune in to a met broadcast they quickly turn away because it is visually boring. It would be much better to make and show actual films like Losey's or Bergman's or Branaugh's.

SPETTACOLO!!!!!!! che desiderio di vedere un buon Don Giovanni come questo ... sperare di vederlo al Petruzzelli è troppo.. "quelli" non sanno nemmeno cos'è l'Opera....

@HConstantine A "properly edited film" may look nicer on a screen but calling this amateurish is messed up because they were just filming a live performance... it's not like they had HD video cameras back then... btw Abaddo didn't conduct the Losey film

This is " The " opera !

I thought that was Levine. it has just his sloppiness. The Losey version, conducted by Abaddo, and which is a properly edited film besides (unlike this amateurish attempt), is much to be preferred.
Fabulous production of Don Giovanni; I love traditional period-style costumes and sets. Samuel Ramey is one of the all time great Don Giovanni of our modern time. This was a terrific Commendatore Scene

I want this on DVD. Are you listening Metropolitan Opera? I have the 1987 version from the Met with Ramey and Furlanetto. Moll is not Il Commendatore however, and the rest of the cast is different as well. I WANT THIS VERSION!!!
