In this video I explain and demonstrate the original, authentic finger waving technique used in the 1920s and 1930s. This technique is not easy but when you get it right you can achieve beautiful results. Just keep practicing!

  • Thank you for making this video! Do you have suggestions on how to do These curls with long hair?

  • @mariposaespanola yep, I made a new video and did it on my hair. Go to my channel and you'll see it. Thanks for watching!

  • are you in hair school? i am and we recently learned how to do finger waves but we pull the hair and pinch it between two fingers. you did a great job tho! :) nice video!

  • @shelbyweidekamp I graduated in March last year and am now licensed and working in a salon. This is the way I learned to do them in school and I find it to be the easiest and also they hold the best. If your way works for you then thats great. Good luck in school! Thanks for the nice comment :)

  • I've tried to do this finger waves, but with my long hair, it was disaster. Than I separated front part, which is shorter and it was great, curled rest of the hair, formed the bun... Thank you for this amazing video and for inspiration!

  • @grcinazena you pretty much described my next video! I just filmed it on Tuesday and hope to have it up this weekend. Thanks for watching!

  • @ManilaSyndicate the style that I did is not wild on the sides, its how pin curls look when combed out. It created a fuller, softer curl. Finger waves and pin curls create two different looks, the style I demonstrated has finger waves on the top section and pin curls on the bottom. This is typically how you would style finger waves on a longer bob. Finger waving all the way down would not work since the hair needs to be combed against the scalp, and the hair exceeds that in length.

  • Thanks for sharing, it's always great to experience history as one sees it.

One matter I've noticed is the final result of this video shows the hair looking wild on the sides. I'm comparing it now to photos from the 1920s and the finger waves of that time look

more orderly. Is the style you did also one they used back then or did you add your own personal touch to it?

  • I think finger waves are SO ugly .. but I do have respect that you took the time to actually put this on youtube for those who want it.

  • thank you this is so helpful!!!!! :D

  • so complicated but such a good result@@@

  • I learned how to do these in a cosmetology school and it was nothing like how you did it! You actually took your time and actually went ALL the way around the head! Lol we only learned how to do it ontop of the head and on the side. It was sloppy and way to fast but your way was awesome. I think i'm gonna try it tomorrow on my own hair. I tried it today for an interview but i forgot how to do it lol Thanks for sharing this was really awesome.

  • You are so talented. This is the best finger waves tutorial I have ever seen.

  • wow.. I could never do this... :D
