60 years of NBC in 8 minutes...
Thanks for posting.

I wish this was made a little later in 1986, because they could have fit in another winning team from 'that championship season'..the '86 New York METS.

Happy 60th birthday NBC (national broadcasting company)

I am afraid that most of Network TV is now dead or dying slowly. Most people now either watch cable, sattelite, internet, reality gargage, etc............NBC will always be the network I grew up with though.

To NBC, fight and get your pride back. What made NBC, NBC, was their innovation and being able to have a good idea about what the future may hold. Today, The Tonight Show, color programming, and late night sketch comedy, made NBC into a well-respected network. Now, there is no sense of direction, no cohesiveness, just ideas thrown against the wall hoping that something will stick. What a shame.

I remember hearing that same song on KCNC Channel 4 in Denver (Colorado), and that was when they celebrated their anniversary (in the late 80s or early 90s).
This was when KCNC was owned by NBC. Now, it's a CBS O&O station in the Mile High City.

Promo film, I assume? I don't remember ever seeing this. Some have already bothered to point out what they didn't show, but I'm very impressed with what they *did* show- from b&w to 'living color.' Just gorgeous.
It would be nice to remaster it and sell to DVD- or better still, re-edit with the additional ground-breaking shows up to 2005 and call it a 90th anniversary tribute. Wonderful clips, all.

David R. Sarnoff was in fact of Russian decent.

Most of today's TV fare is the same old, same old.."Reality" shows, trashy talk shows, lame sitcoms. The only good stuff, IMO, are the sports shows.

I'm aware of that. I've been seein' this vid 4 more than 2 years here on Youtube, 747400fan. :-]
Why didn't America ever upgrade it colour TV system to PAL? which provides a much shaper picture image? Britain,Europe (pretty sure all of Europe) and Australia all waited until the technology improved before they started broadcasting in colour. ABC started broadcasting in the UK but they did not wanted to pay for a prime-time Licence on Free View (Digital TV) and so they closed down after 2 years. I miss it very much because I loved the American style of TV.

Because it would have meant obsoleting all the NTSC color receivers and broadcasting equipment that was currently in use. Backwards compatability with existing b/w television was a requirement of NTSC color and a conversion to PAL would have lost that compatability. So, we've been stuck with NTSC color these past 50+ years. PAL does a much better job with color, I agree. NTSC = Never Twice the Same Color

I love how they not only mention the shows, but the broadcast technology that was developed over those sixty years(radio to TV, black and white to Living Color)..and you bet color TV was a huge deal when it was ntroduced to the public in 1954. That was the year the Tournament of Roses parade was first shown in LIVING COLOR. There were various auditoriums set up across the US with RCA color sets so people could watch the broadcast. But the first color sets were very expensive.

I appreciated that as well; entertaining and informative. I have to say that David Sarnoff, aka the General, truly had a vision into the future.
