NOLA Shop Talk is a brief look at trials and tribulations endured by small business owners in New Orleans following the disasters caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The owners of five independent businesses offer their stories and suggestions regarding the city of New Orleans in a time of renewal. Created by the crack team of Eric Laws and Todd Voltz this serious subject is approached in a casual manner allowing the viewer to have a first hand account of the persistence and the passion with which these people live while working to rebuild a city that they all love. I feel that you fail to recognize that the vitality of an urban neighborhood is contingent upon the diversity of its businesses and upon people frequenting those businesses. Groceries are great, but a city doesn't thrive on food alone--just like a city doesn't thrive on t-shirt shops alone. You seem to contradict yourself. You desire rebuilding but your sentiments are truly anti-economy. Creative people must sell their ideas to thrive. The only thing depressing is your ill-considered comment.

I live 3 blocks away from these places. I know these people. Small businesses are the heart of New Orleans, especially in the Lower Garden District/Uptown area. Art galleries? You bet your ass they are part of the NOLA backbone! I'm an artist and right now, having opportunities to creatively "vent" is a godsend. And, no, those are NOT two hookers! Trashy Diva is a classy, feminine clothing line and quite popular, unbeknownst to you. (Sigh)I'm so tired of the unsupportive, negative attitude.

Was in NOLA yesterday and it was buzzing. I am sorry you hate your fellow citizens so much. These people are dedicated to the rebuilding of a great American city.

Pleasant to see Magazine St. and your shops. Best wishes for the New Year and profit for the koffers. The area shown is the historic Irish Channel. Now the FQ has groceries at 1201 & 701 Royal, 1101 Bourbon & 1000 Dauphine. Don't know about giant WD on St. Louis in the Faubourg Treme.

Too bad not a single business presented provides goods and services necessary or vital to the recovery and more importantly the sustainability of the economy in NOLA apart from tax revenue. ...as if we can rebuild on the foundation of tshirt shops and art galleries. How about a real grocery store near the French Quarter? The poverty of ideas and of progress is beyond me, especially for such a self-described "creative" community. Shopping is not the answer. Depressing video.

Actually landslave New Orleans is coming back despite many people whom take your stance. The business owners will soon be back. You need to quit listening to the media. I mean we have the Sugar Bowl/New Orleans Bowl/Bayou Classic/2008 NBA All Star Game and the tourists actually are coming so go read a book. Soon we will also have a Super Bowl among many city wide conventions.

Sadly, you will all go out of business if you stay there. NOLA truly needs to be abandoned, even though this is not a politically correct position to take, it is the right decision. NOLA is done. Sure, It will stumble along in a reduced form. But it will not be NOLA again. The tourists will not come back. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. NOLA is done.
