Bernhard Gal: textur #1 (2005, excerpt)
combining phonography and photography.
'textur #1' is an audiovisual installation by Bernhard Gal, based on photographs taken on several flights between Vienna and Berlin. These images are slowly crossfading on several layers, accentuating their abstract, textural qualities, and combined with sound recordings from various travel situations and communication processes.
'textur' is an ongoing series of audiovisual works, combining phonographies and photographies, to be presented in installations or live performances. In an attempt to integrate textures from the visual and acoustic realms, textur uses snapshots from the 'real world' that show a textural quality, i.e. either repetitive, rhythmic elements or amorphous, static qualities.
