Originally released as Final Mission on the Famicom in 1990, and then released as the unfortunately named S.C.A.T: Special Cybernetic Attack Team on the NES in 1991. Made by Natsume, with music by Kyouhei Sada, who is also responsible for the music in Abadox (also by Natsume). This is part of the early days of Natsume, where it seemed like they were primarily focused on making awesome action titles for the famicom/nes, as opposed to today where it pretty much seems like they're just the Harvest Moon company. These games, including the face rockingly awesome Shatterhand and Shadow of the Ninja, are known just as much for their excellent music as they are for their exciting and fast paced gameplay, and S.C.A.T./Final Mission is no exception. If i were to describe the gameplay, I would say "air contra" (that's perhaps a little vauge, but it gives you a good idea what to expect).
The soundtrack to this game is of particular note for several reasons, the first of which has to do with this intro track. Final mission has a different inro, that much is no surprise, but they actually made a completely different song for the S.C.A.T., perhaps because the original intro is rather ominus depressing, and the new one is more like "INTO AKSHUN GENTELMEN". I've combined the first part (which is rather short, and the version i have actually has a lot of dead air at the end), and the much longer second part into one track, and tried to get the timing as best i could for when one goes into the other. The second thing is that the rest of the music, while technically the same, is actually in a different pitch as the music from Final mission. It's not that it's using different "instruments" per se (like with Castlevania 3 and Contra), it's just that the songs sounds "higher". This makes me wonder why they did it, if it was the same reason as Konami's games, that they had their own sound chip, or if they just wanted to change it because they thought it would fit better.
