### Final Update: After four unsuccesful repairs i got my money back from the store. Never again ASUS! ###

My Asus Eee PC 1215B touchpad is behaving strange a few minutes after it was turned on. It does only move in huge distances, detects multitouch-gestures even if i have only one finger on the touchpad (multitouch deactivated in the driver) or does absolutely nothing. Sometimes it's working again after a few minutes, but mostly i have to reboot. Then it's working fine some time, until the same problem occurs.

Update:
I got it back from RMA. It took only four days until it was back. They fixed the switch and reinstalled Windows. I found "ASUS-Touchpad_V15_1_8_0" on D:\ , maybe it was only a driver problem. They made also a little scratch in my screen :(

Update II:
Got it back from the second RMA, they replaced the Touchpad and now everything is working fine! Let's hope this lasts for a while. Thanks to everyone supporting me, but the safer way (not to void the warranty) is to RMA it until it works.
It was definitely a hardware failure!

Update III: Worked for five days until the touchpad failed again. RMA'd it again....

Update IV: It worked eight (!) days. New record ;)

To fix the APM-Problem (HDD is spinning up, writing a few seconds and then goes back to sleep) wich will kill your HDD in short time "quietHDD" stopped this. No annoying clicking and humming sounds from the HDD anymore and the battery lasts a little bit longer.

No audio in this clip.

  • Do you now if Asus have resolved this problem in the latest 1215b/1215n units?

  • @josetxu30 I don't think so. They repaired mine now four times, still the same problem. Finally i told the manager of the store what crap this netbook is and got my money back.

  • restarting (for any reason, including bios updates, software uninstall/updates) will only temporarily restore touchpad function. This is a grounding issue and there are 2 different fixes depending on whether your 1215b has either 1 or 2 silver pads under the touchpad itself...u remove the palm-rest panel in front of the keyboard to fix. See the thread on forum.eeeuser.com entitled "1215N touchpad behaving crazily", page 6 for both methods of repair, including pics. (Prob affects 1215N & B)

  • @yhnsbby Now they changed mey Touchpad and everything is working fine. I dunno, but if you fix it yourself it might void the warranty.

  • try to disinstall office....and your touchpad will start....

  • @commanditt It was not a driver problem, i got it back from the second RMA and they changed the Touchpad. Now everything is working fine.

  • @dorbie Woohoo that totally fixed mine! thanks!

  • same goes to me!

  • @josetxu30 I just bought an Asus K53 model and have been having trouble with the trackpad from day one. Just had it go completely unresponsive for about 10 minutes and it would only zoom in and out. RETURN.

  • @yhnsbby From experimentation I have found that you can temporarily fix the touchpad by placing the palm of your hand flat over the full pad for a few seconds. This (I think) dissipates whatever charge is causing the problem. Then it will work. It seems to fail when you leave it for a while and come back presumably allowing a problematic charge to build.

  • @josetxu30 No they have not, my new ASUS that arrived today has this exact problem. Clearly ASUS are blitheringly incompetent and damn I am annoyed that I will probably have to self repair this given the experience of other users.

  • Aw crap I have a similar problem on a brand new 1215b purchaesed end of December 2011 I'm using to type this message. Damnit they must have known about these failures as they ship this crap to their customers. I am one unhappy ASUS customer. I can excuse a problem with a system, but not widespread problems that they should have fixed months ago.

  • @Vlaxiti fuck u

  • @ihearvoices274 Thanks, mine is working ok (cross my fingers).

  • @derkotisttot Thanks, I can't understand there's as solution given by users that Asus's technical services are completely unabled to apply. I finally bought one, is the one that best fit my requeriments and if it fails I'll repair it myself.

  • if your touchpad doesn't work for the 1215n or 1215b then look at this howtofix video:

if you dont understand the video just look at the comments
