No, BIg John isn't here. This is Floyd on bass, Jimi "Prime Time" Smith on guitar, and Tenner "Playboy" Venson on drums. Wrencher had passed away by this time. (Wrencher had only one arm, so he'd be immediately recognizable if he were here.)
Jimi Smith, by the way, is the son of the late singer Johnnie Mae Dunson.

Another Great Harmonica Legend is in the crowd in the right frame.Little Joe Berson. Little Joe was one of the greatest ever.

@lazur1 Thanks. Yes it does. I thought it was first, the first few times I watched it lol. Thats y I started learning first position. Peace man!
-
@c; Wow, never occurred to me. i play guitar, little to no harp. His 1st position's so rich, (so "not 1st position"), it almost passes for 2nd.
-
@lazur1 Question: Did BW play every song in the key of A with an A harp? I havent found anything with him playing a "D" harp in 2nd position.
-
@lazur1 yeah I know you were defending him. BW is my favorite as well. I understood what you were saying bout sound.
-
@c: Got me wrong, "c": I'm defending the old guy, (62 here, as I am now!). Big W's the best I've seen, & I've seen'm all, (not Little W, but from what i'm told, he was way past his prime by the time I might have). Big W's prime lasted to the end. / My point was that much great blues has no rhythm & lead role-playing, but rather, intertwining lines, so if a recording brings out a line too loudly, it'll sound like hogging a solo.
-
@lazur1 Oh ok. But even tho he seems overbearing, this still sounds so good. He could make it work huh? Peace! Thanks!
-
@c: Every time I saw him at BLUES, Walter played through a Fender Champ: 1 / 8" speaker powered by a 5 watt class A amp. He may seem overbearing on this video because of the recording microphone's placement.

I think about 1979. There is some great film footage of Big John in one of the Maxwell Street movies, I believe.
