Originally recorded by an on site journalism crew, this is Part 1 of 5 chapters of a single program called MSNBC Investigates: Life and Death (divided as per YouTube's file size and length guidelines). North Memorial is a Level I Trauma Center in Minnesota, and this is actual footage of patients being treated in our Emergency Department. Therefore, content is graphic at times and viewer discretion is advised.

  • awesome video!!! Where can I watch more?

  • @wmathew07 Also sorry for the very delayed reply to your comment. This is Video 1 of 5; the others are available on our channel: northmemorialdotcom.

  • What year was this???

Looks like the 90s but what is the exact year?

  • @1037pm Sorry for this long overdue response, but it looks like we missed a few comments. This was recorded in late 2001, but since the footage has been so popular, we continue to share it.

  • How old is this video? If they are a level 1 trauma they should have PACS, who prints films anymore?

  • Sorry for this delayed reply to your question. This was actually filmed several years ago but features many clinicians who are still here, and the stories have been popular among viewers, so we've chosen to leave the vids online. We do use an electronic medical record currently, as well as digital imaging.

  • At about 4:35. The fact that he can feel his toes doesn't prove he does not have a spine injury. It just means his spine was not severed. His spine could have some degree of injury.

  • I am amazed that movie stars, rock stars and other celebrities get the attention that they do when you get a first hand experience of what these doctor's have to go through every day. They are saving lives and not getting any recognition, meanwhile actors and getting paid millions of dollars and huge amounts of attention to act.

  • tjtesttesttest. You are correct, even though he has full sensesation and movement in his upper and lower limbs dosent mean he hasent got a spinal cord injury but, there could be damage to his lumbar, tharoic vertabre. So he is right, there could still be damge to his spine.
