Produced by National Geographic, in conjunction with the U.S. Chamber and airing on PBS April 16th 2008. Based on the best-seller Illicit, by Moisés Naím, this program exposes the criminal networks behind the manufacture and sale of illicit goods - from fake purses and DVDs to counterfeit pharmaceuticals - that are having a devastating impact on our economy, jobs, and consumer health and safety.
this is a good documentary. I bought it on ebay.

At the same time, redeploy the DEA against these smuggling networks.
After all, the REALLY scary thing is not fake handbags & watches, but possible nuclear technology or biological agents. Which idea scares you more. Someone arriving at your airport with a kilo of heroin, or a kilo of anthrax or some uranium?
Its a no-brainer. Re-legalising drugs would mean the Taliban lose their means of buying weapons. If we dont end the War on Drug [users], we are guaranteed to lose the war in Afghanistan.

Incorrect. The consumers are only ordinary people looking for a bargain. The solution is not with them, beyond education.
The solution begins with taking away their most profitable industry: illegal drugs. How? By re-legalising them & controlling their supply. Allow addicts to get heroin & cocaine in clinics, as they do in Switzerland, & experimentally in Germany, Holland, Canada & UK. The result is addicts getting counseling they need & a massive drop in crime, 80% in Zurich.

The simple way to deal with this? Hit their profits. How? End the unwinnable & unconstitutional War on Drug [users] & redeploy the DEA against counterfeiters
That doesnt mean heroin sold in the supermarket or TV cocaine ads. It means tightly controlled hospital clinics where addicts must use the drugs on site, so no re-selling. In Switzerland this brought Zurich an 80% crime reduction!
Legal pot taxes could raise $2.5 billion P.A. for Treasury. Demand your legislators end the insane Drug War.

I agree...it really falls on us. I guess I didn't realize just how big this industry was, I was this on PBS last night, and it really blew my mind.

I just saw this program, and, it is, indeed, scary, but, both the problem & solution begin with us-the illicit customers.
