A wonderful performance in my opinion. Love this symphony. It's such a shame the audience don't seem to appreciate it as much as I do. Their applause is somewhat lukewarm, and some people don't even clap at all! How horrible is that? Thankfully, there were a few shouts of 'Bravo' from some members of the audience.

It always amazes me to hear Sibelius's detractors say his music isn't human. That it's all landscapes, etc. With the 7th particularly I hear a musical evocation of a life. It begins suddenly and mysteriously, expands, becoming more complicated, stronger. It reaches a high point and declines. The end is full of pain and anguish. Sadness. Loss. And then acceptance. The final cadence is like the soul escaping the body.

@AntzBandit12 The Viennese, like the Germans, usually aren't big admirers of Sibelius. Even though their orchestra plays it so well.

And 7:51 is spectacular.

Incredible how the strings are so prominent in the section after 6:00, rising above the trombones and other brass. I've never heard it that way before.

@AntzBandit12 Jochum's Bruckner 7 with the Concertgebouw Orch is a very precious thing. Nice to see someone plugging it. I've shared the link with as many people as I think will have a reasonable chance of appreciating it. Especially that finale. Jochum helps Bruckner's spirit share its wisdom with those who will hear.

That last chord leaves me seeing turquoise and yellow. I can almost taste it. Stunning.

The simple purity and sublime beauty of this great symphony touches my soul like few others and Bernstein does a wonderful job of it here. I was shocked when a German friend of mine (a musician) disagreed that this was a great work. He dismissed it as 'leer lauf,' in other words, boring. How anyone can think that is beyond me, but perhaps many Germans really do not 'get' Sibelius. The English and Americans do. And it's no wonder Sibelius burned his 8th. This one says all that needs to be said.
Thank you so much for posting...
