The Tzu Chi Foundation is one of the early pioneers and advocates to bring new sustainable, green initiatives into the disaster relief paradigm. The concept of 'Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle' has been applied to all of our disaster relief efforts. For example, we serve meals with reusable dinnerware and utensils and provide eco- friendly fleece blankets to disaster victims. Each blanket is made from 70 plastic water bottles. While eliminating tons of trash and other pollutants, our instant rice, noodles, and corn powder can be served shortly after adding room temperature water. With our green initiatives, we have reduced the amount of limited resources used in disaster areas.
