To really see the difference, click "Watch in HD" just below the bottom right corner of the video.

I mainly created this for my review of the Flip Mino HD, but I was trying to show how standard definition is clearly inferior to high definition, even in low-end ultra compact devices like point-and-shoot cameras/camcorders.

For the outdoor scenes, the only option I messed with was sunlight mode for white-balancing on the SD 450.

  • Did you know you should actually never use digital zoom? It's just cropping a section of the screen then blowing it up to fit the camera.

  • @Twisted4000 I don't think i did any digital zoom here - the Flip software for digital zoom is surprisingly good, but yeah I don't use it in generality.

  • Thanks for uploading this. I think you just sold me on buying one. :P Kill Bill is one of my favourite movies, also.

Oh, and I think 2:44 is the best part example of how awesome this camera is.

  • Glad that people are benefiting from this! I never see stuff like this when I watch/read product reviews online.

Kill Bill actually is my favorite movie :) I'm sure I'm in a minority there, but I don't care - I just love it.

  • awsome, I did the excact same thing i did about a month ago but never uploaded yet. Was pretty shocked to see my old JVC Everio Vs the New Flip HD.

  • It's shocking how much camcorder technology has advanced, huh? :)

The last real camcorder I had used was a Sony HDR, and it looked real good in standard definition but the Flip Mino HD would probably be better in a head-to-head (thought the HDR also had HD modes).

  • i remember the good old days, when we had black and white tv's.... im only 18 GEESE!!!!

  • Thanks for your review

  • The big difference between the two is the sound. The HD cam had superior sound quality compared to the standard definition camera.
